Rawson Lake and Ridge

A warm day in late September awaited us for this hike: 15C and gusty winds as we prepared ourselves by Upper Kananaskis Lake. In less than an hour, we were at Rawson Lake, still mostly in morning shadow. After a pleasant walk to the west end of the lake, we were faced with a steep slog up to the ridge - a somewhat muddy, braided trail with no switchbacks. After some 40 minutes of huffing and puffing, we were rewarded with spectacular views of both Kananaskis lakes. We rambled the ridge somewhat, then returned by the same trails. A few scrawny larch and some patches of snow were an indication of things to come.
